ROVING REPORTER IN BALLYLANDERS
There was a feast of football at Ballylanders on Saturday last, four games were played and it was a blustery day as the winds blew down between the mountain
13's league: Ballylanders 1 St Patrick's 0
This game was settled by the only goal 10 minutes into the second half, a goal scored by Callan Ensor after a mazy run through the middle; John Kirby, the visiting custodian, who had a fine game, saved the initial shot but the ball was bundled home at the second attempt. John Faust was elegant in attack for the winners and his brother Mark added sparkle when introduced. Jordan Sheehy, Patrick Kelly and keeper, Ian O Sullivan, were others to impress for Ballylanders. The Saints piled forward in the second half and the Trojan efforts of John Keogh, Dave Buckley and Morgan Higgins deserved an equalizer. But Ballylanders held on for a notable also victory. Ballylanders: Ian O Sullivan, Martin Frewen, Jordan Sheehy, Jack Fogarty, Patrick Kelly, David O Neill, Killian Meade, Ciaran Meade, John Faust, Christian Buckley, Callan Ensor, Mark Faust and Kieran Neau.

15's Ballylanders 2 Rathkeale 7
The scoreline would suggest a one sided encounter but this match remained competitive until the final 15 minutes when the home resistance dissipated and Rathkeale showed no mercy, firing home four late goals. Darren McCarthy beat the offside trap to open the scoring for the home side. Kevin Shanahan restored parity with an exquisite strike into the top corner. Ciaran Kelly put Bally back in front and their keeper, Terry Quish, made many fine saves to protect this lead. However, feature of the second half was a brilliant hattrick from the visitors Dylan Young one of which was a unstoppable thunderbolt from 35 yards, which would be worthy of many replays on match of the day. Gearoid Mulcaire netted twice and an energetic George Mulcahy completed the tally. Cathal Shanahan was stylish for Bally and was well supported by Leon Aylimer and Aaron Moore while Sylver Swzed and Seamus Kennedy were others to shine for the Sky blues.

11's league: Ballylanders 3 Castle United 0
This was a cracking game of football with great determination, skill and commitment from all the players in action. Brian Howard and Killian Meade scored for the homesters before Castle had settled. But the United were not deterred, regrouping to share the exchanges for much of the game before conceding a late goal. Patrick Shanahan was superb was the winners, Killian Meade, Ciaran Neau and Mikey Cleary were the pick of a fine Bally side. Even in defeat, Castle were very impressive, Jimmy Quilty and Declan Gilligan defended with passion, Cian O Connell and Shane O Sullivan were outstanding. But it was a most enjoyable, well contested game and selecting some players over others may be somewhat unfair as everyone gave of their best.
